When you are able to pivot you can get yourself out of a situation. I think my self-proclaimed ability is because I have gotten myself into and out of so many situations, it just comes naturally to me.
I have said many times, "self, you brought that on yourself. You weren't prepared and now you are in a mess". I come away from those types of situations saying, "self, you will never let that happen again". As humans we know that the biggest lessons in life come from mistakes that have happened.
A co-worker once told me that nurses are natural problem solvers. Not only in their profession, but in their lives. I think that is true. Most of their shifts they spend in a constant state of pivoting. In some situations, a nurse may only have a few seconds, minutes at the most, to "pivot".
I call a certain sector of people "street smart". They are someone that is a "fixer" such as a mechanic, carpenter, plumber or an all-round handyman. Street smart people look at a problem, think of a pivot, and fix it. Now with "google" people like me can fix things they never could before. It is empowering to be able to pivot and fix it!
Part of being able to pivot, is to have the ability to change your way of thinking. Pivoting can also mean acceptance of what has happened, staying positive at a difficult time and accept the situation as part of your life. The reality of life is that even with all of the pivoting possible some problems remain.
Perfect topic for what is happening to me right now. Thanks Faye
