"Eagles Soar Alone"

I am not a bird lover by any means. I am not entertained by watching the birds at the feeder or the cute little hummingbird drinking the red water. My Dad's family can be described as a walking talking bird book. I do not have the same passion. My choice of birds would be the big birds. For me, they are teachers and we can learn from them. I think we would all agree that the eagle is the most majestic bird there is. When an eagle is spotted it commands our attention, for some reason we feel a connection with them. It is rare to ever see more than one eagle at a time, because "Eagles Soar Alone".  

An eagle presents as a fearless bird; nothing will hold them back. They are known as guardians of the sky, soaring high above keeping a watchful eye on the world. They are unique in that they are the only bird that loves a storm, they will fly fearlessly into it. Their wings are designed to allow them to ride the current, rising higher with very little effort. Once they get above the storm they soar in more peaceful air. 

Eagles are depicted as a solitary creature, they feel safe and comfortable being alone. An eagle's solitary nature is encouraging to individuals who also lead a solidary life.  

It is no wonder why we are captivated when we see an eagle, they are described in so many ways. An eagle symbolizes power and protection; they are seen as symbols of strength and vigilance. They have the vision, clarity and the ability to see beyond the surface and gain insight. Eagles embody the values of bravery and personal freedom with their courage. Many people connect spiritually with an eagle. Spiritually, an eagle means freedom, strength, wisdom and a connection with the divine, they are revered as a messenger to the creator. 

An eagle has the ability it does to survive; humans have so many of the same qualities. Have you ever thought of yourself as an eagle? Having to fly above a life storm is varied for each of us. No one is spared having to use their strength and vigilance to never give up, when giving up seemed like the only option. For those that are spiritually connected to an eagle, it brings them peace, comfort and the direction they need in their lives. Eagles are teachers, they teach us to face challenges and storms with courage, rather than avoiding them.     

The next time you see an eagle take a moment and think where you are in your life. Why did you have a rare opportunity to see an eagle and what are you going to take away from it. Eagles are put into our lives, not just for their beauty, but to remind us we are also strong enough to "Soar Alone".

It was decided in October that Waves of Hope would get behind a researcher at Brandon University. Dr. Majumder is working on early detection of breast cancer, through a simple blood test. She is also researching to predict treatment outcomes for triple negative breast cancer. TNBC is extremely aggressive and has few treatment options. Her work is to lower the resistance of the cells and make them more responsive to treatment. Celebrate Female Friendships

I have written about women and friendships many times, and here I am again. There are lots of catch words to describe friendships such as being in someone's tribe, BFF, sista or in a sisterhood. Some women have a large circle of friends, whereas other women are content with one dear friend that is there through every aspect of her life.    Every time the gals from my paddling team get together it is a celebration. We call it a practice, meeting, volunteering or whatever we choose for that night. But, in reality it a celebration of friendship and survival. Some of those friendships started in 1999 and others are only a couple of years old. Maybe it is the stories, but it seems like we have known each other for a much longer time. Cancerversary

A C ancerversary is a definition that was created by Bestie which means a celebration to honor breast cancer survivorship.  It all began two years ago when I suggested that we should celebrate with a trip for what was going to be her 10-year mark of survivorship. She could pick whatever she wanted to do, and I would do it. We attempted to make plans, some as simple as a weekend in Winnipeg and some more elaborate like a cruise down the St. Lawerence. For one reason or another, we couldn't make anything happen. Life stepped in our way and said, "you aren't going anywhere", and we didn't for two years. Then out of the blue  I got a text from Bestie that said, "do you want to go on a Rhine River Cruise?". This was it; she had picked how we would celebrate and I was in.
