Today is Mother's Day. A day that mothers are recognized with gifts, cards, flowers and other lovely things. A day to say "Thank You" either through the written word in a card, text, phone call or in person. It's Mom's Day and so much more. For many today is also a day to celebrate a woman that have stepped in for a variety of reasons. A woman that seems to say and do things that a mom would do but isn't your mom. We all have those women that are so special to us and today is the day we think of them.
This day of recognition is incredible if you fit the category of "Mom". Like so many things in life, if the pieces come together, it is wonderful. For many women today is bittersweet, it may be a day to just get through. They will be putting on a brave happy face when inside their thoughts are somewhere else. For some reason life has been unfair and today may be a struggle. Just know you are not alone and it's okay to feel that way.
I just got back from a wonderful getaway with my sister and two cousins. As kids, we spent so much time together. It was a special time for us to walk down memory lane with each other. We also did what I feel is so important, we supported each other. We were women looking after other women.
I came home to a parcel on my doorstep. It was a beautiful glass cup with flowers and a butterfly on it. The gift included an inscribed keychain of "Little Reminders". I just felt so blessed that someone for their own reasons, sent me a gift. I was reminded how powerful the simple act of giving and receiving makes you feel so worthy.
With my parcel was another gift for my mom. My dear cousin sent them to us. Her mom has passed, and her words were, "I want to enjoy your mom as long as I can. She is dear to me". My cousin is someone who will never get back in life what she gives. She is a blessing in our family. What I am writing about is the people like my cousin who don't have a mom to buy a gift and card for. Women who never had children, the single Dad hoping he is doing what a mom in his children's lives would do. Loving Pet Moms. Women who have lost a child or those that have lost their mom. There are so many situations that tug on a woman's heart on Mother's Day.
Today I feel blessed to have a mom. My mom has celebrated "Mother's Day" for 69 years. She is part of a five generational celebration of motherhood. We are very fortunate to have so many long-lived women in our family.
Today is a day of reflection and a time to think about your mother and the impact she had on you. It is a day of celebration of moms and women. In closing, I am sending wishes for a "Happy Mother's Day" to each of you reading this. However, you fit into today, just know you are special to so many. You are "enough".
Thank you Faye! Hope you are having a wonderful Mother’s Day also!
