I followed up with my own google search and I loved the information I found. The article was written by a person that is a "millennial". I pulled the information from his article that I thought explained my point further. Millennials are born between 1980-2004. They are described as having their own political views, wrapped up in technology, diverse and unique. They are also known to be questioning.
Millennials question everything. They have a relentless desire to understand. They are an inquisitive generation. They look forward to the next step to make it better. They like to challenge norms that have been set up by previous generations. They seek a more efficient, better way to do tasks. Part of this is because doing things the same way is boring to millennials. They feel that changing the way things are happening are not possible unless they ask questions. Millennials want to know why they are completing a task and want to know when they are doing a good job.
Millennials are multitaskers that have a drive to be connected to others and strive to have a personal life along with a work life. They embrace the motto, "work hard-play hard". They strive to change people's perspectives and show everyone how beneficial the "questioning generation" can be.
Millennials are not the only ones that "question everything". As a society we have to accept that a simple google search will prove what we thought was right, is not. We will be corrected more often than before. To have a quick fact finder to any question certainly expands our knowledge base. The issue lies in retaining the new information.
As we age, we collect "wisdom". I love wisdom it is better than any google search. Something else that isn't a google search is a "lived experience". The knowledge the Dixon's had about animals and birds should have been published. Farmers are the same, they go with the "tried and true" way of doing things. Asking someone why they do what they do, when they have been doing it for 50 years, may result in an interesting response. It may go like this, "that's how I have always done it".
I do love a "lived experience", "wisdom" and the "tried and true" as an answer to any question. There are times when my curiosity is sparked, and I need to do a "Google search" and "Question Everything". In closing, I am asking, "what did we ever do when we didn't have an answer for a question?". I think we just accepted what we knew and moved on. Right or wrong we were confident in our knowledge. Technology has changed that about our world, and somehow, we have accepted it.
An undisputed fact is that 45 years ago today Mount St. Helens erupted!!!
Very interesting Faye!
