Unbelievable

I am feeling very lighthearted as I write this post. What you are about to read is a collection of what we could call, "first world problems". It is going to unfold just like my conversations with my bestie, jumping from one topic to another at warp speed with absolutely no connection to the previous topic.

There are just an unbelievable number of perplexing things in life.  For instance, how can a dryer ball simply disappear. Lost forever in your home, never be to be seen again. Or, how can you have a grocery list in front of you yet miss the very thing you went to the grocery store to get. The only answer to those questions is, "because".

I would be amiss if I didn't use this time to speak of the unbelievable January weather. I often describe the weather as bipolar and this January the weather went right off its medication. When the weather is off its meds, it goes up and down the thermometer like a maniac. At least when it is extremely cold you don't have to worry about freezing rain and blowing snow. I think we will all agree -10 is a perfect winter temperature. This January I am sure there were more days with a red line of caution warning on our phones, than the days without. I lost track of how often they closed #1 Highway. There were many other days they should of but didn't. When the thermometer hit -37 degrees with a WC of -47, I said, "thank god I am not working". I remember all too well hoping and praying my vehicle would start after a long night shift. Running out on breaks to start it even when it was plugged in. It was all about going home and a car that wouldn't start was not something I wanted to deal with.

Something that is on the rise is breaking into businesses with heavy equipment to get the ATMs. Older heavy equipment all have the same key, one size fits all. The process is simple, they, as in the thieves, fire up the equipment that they may or may not have stolen. They knock down the wall of the business, pull out the ATM and help themselves to the money. I think that criminals are getting smarter and more creative at an unbelievable rate.

I have been knitting since I was 9 years old. That is nearly 6 decades. I am currently knitting a shawl. It has three stitches, K1, YO, K2 together, over and over again. What is unbelievable is the mistakes I have made and the time I have spent fixing them. I can follow an intricate pattern with no mistakes but leave me unattended in my head and there I am trying to figure out where I went wrong.

My friend has a Christmas cactus that is over 100 years old. It of course has been handed down from one generation to another and she now has it. I understand it is massive and clearly has stood the test of time. To me that would be an unbelievable responsibility one of which I would not be able to uphold.

I have a backseat full of reusable bags. I am not sure how long it is going to take for me to remember to take a bag into the store, each and every time I go shopping, not just occasionally. Another unbelievable fact is that I often have the wrong size of bag. Frequently, I think I only need a couple of things, and take a small bag when in fact, I need a big bag. I get carried away and soon I am either buying yet another bag or trying to carry out my purchases without dropping them.

My Mom is now in the Great Great Grandma group. We are a small family of 21 in total. In January Mom has 4 birthday dates to remember, but six members of our family have January birthdays. She has a daughter, one grandson, two great granddaughters, one great grandson and now a great great grandson who share those four dates. For me it is unbelievable that my sister has two of her grandchildren born on her birthday.

Mom made an unbelievable number of 99 jigsaw puzzles in 2024, what an accomplishment for someone that is 90.

I am unsure why this has happened, but someone decided to take Cherry Blossoms off the market. Since 1890, Cherry Blossoms have been made in Canadian. They are one of those treats that either you love them or not, I loved them. What is unbelievable is Lowry gave a press conference to say that Cherry Blossoms would be discontinued. They failed to say why.

My last purchase

Couple of things here. It is unbelievable how much a linen closet can hold and that there is not one item that is linen in it.

As you read my list of unbelievable things, are you thinking of what is on your list? I am one of those people that always has a story. My opening line is often, "you will never believe what just happened to me".

There is so much sadness and tragedy in the world right now, it can get overwhelming. When I started writing this post it was because I needed to think about life in a different way. I wanted to be reminded that simple, basic life is truly unbelievable.

Easter Baking

Easter is a holiday that is steeped with tradition and reflection. It holds a different meaning for each of us. Every Easter I reflect on how it was when I was a kid, way back in the dark ages, and how everything has changed so much. For many families it is a time to come together to celebrate the traditions that are meaningful to them.  Easter is a sacred time for Christians as they celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ . Easter is known as a  time for rebirth, hope and new beginnings.                                      I doubt anyone has a family memory that can trump the "Dixon Family Egg Hunt". My Dad was one of 10 children in his family. They were never all at home at the same time, but there were probably at least 6 or 7 kids on the egg hunt each year. Their dear mother would dye 14 dozen eggs with no food coloring. All I know is beets make red eggs. Dad would speak of h...

Final Requests

I was just rolling through Facebook as I often do, when this touching post caught my eye. A final request was made by an elementary schoolteacher in Georgia. Before she passed, she asked that instead of flowers that people bring backpacks filled with school supplies to her funeral. Her final request resulted in hundreds of backpacks from friends, family and strangers. Children she had never met will have what they need to shape their future.  At the time of death, people want to do something. Often it is a donation to a charity either identified by the family or of the donor's choice. I have to admit, I am poor at giving to a memoriam, I'm not sure why. But I would certainly buy and fill a backpack. I don't think I am alone when I say, I love creativity. I am also all in when it is for a cause and especially if children are involved.  This woman is leaving a legacy behind. She just wanted to help children as the last thing she did. She had no idea the magnitude of her reque...
