I was scrolling through Facebook, when I came upon a video of a blind couple performing on "Britain's Got Talent". Their introduction was so funny, I assumed they were comedians. Not only had they led their life in the dark, but she was also a breast cancer survivor. They had one son together, and he was also blind. When the time came for their performance, the husband made his way to the piano and his wife began to sing. The song they chose couldn't have been more appropriate, "Climb Every Mountain". I hung on every word as she sang in an incredibly gifted way. The crowd was on their feet, tears were flowing, her three adult children were yelling words of encouragement to their mum. The judges praised their performance.
We are all familiar with the words to "Climb every Mountain". It originated on the movie, "The Sound of Music". The song is about overcoming fear, obstacles in life, and reaching for a dream. It is an inspirational song reminding us that anything is possible.
Daily, this couple will face and overcome obstacles. As a couple, they achieved their dream of performing on one of the biggest stages in their country. Their performance was only a few minutes long, but it left a lasting impact on me. Being blind is this couple's norm, they know nothing different. To have found each other and come together to create beautiful music, is inspiring. It is simple, for this couple and their son, dreams do come true.

I was recently at a retreat with the Wave girls. One of our members is an accomplished vocalist. Time stood still as she shared her lovely voice and sang four songs. One of the songs was, "The Climb" by Miley Cyrus. Miley wrote this song about perseverance and having faith in ourselves. The lyrics reflect the struggles that she and everyone may face in life. Except for two, all the women in the room, were breast cancer survivors. I am sure this powerful song, reminded them of the climb they had to overcome cancer.
Climbing is necessary to progress. Whether you want to make a dream come true, become healthy again, or achieve a goal, you must climb. In life, it is doubtful that anyone is spared "a climb". At times life seems like it is all uphill. Every step is difficult, it is like walking through mud, every step heavy and burdensome.
I am going to close out this post with one of my favorite quotes, "you never know how strong you are until you have no other choice". Giving up is never an option, continue to climb, progress and make your dreams come true.
We have so many blessings that everyday we are grateful for!
