For some reason getting up at 4:45 was a choice I made on Sunday. Many factors played into that decision, the biggest was I was hot and wanted coffee. Because it was Sunday, I started off the day by polishing and posting a new blog. As I worked on my computer, I looked out the window and saw this beautiful sight. The picture doesn't do it justice, but I realized the sun was coming up and I was going to watch the day wake up. What a great way to start a Sunday and a new week.
I decided that I should make bread, buns and cinnamon buns. It had started to rain, and I always feel like starting the oven when it rains and is cooler. I checked out the freezer and the rhubarb I found was going to be a rhubarb sticky pudding in the near future. I feel so content when I am baking. At this point I am closing in on 11:00. I am realizing it could be a long day.
It seems the older we get the more we talk about what time we do what. Getting up early is for sure a topic of conversation. What type of sleep we had the previous night is also up for discussion. In the scheme of things, it doesn't matter what time a retired person gets up, how well we slept or when we go to bed. With the exception of those that still live a physically demanding day, most of a retired person's commitments are either a social event or a health appointment. You can do either of those things with little sleep.
One of my friends told me that when she wakes up really early, she just gets up. She says, "we never know how many days we will be blessed to be able to see a new day, so why not get up and enjoy it". I agree, I am a morning person, and I enjoy everything about it. I love to have coffee, work on my computer, watch people go to work, and plan my day. I just enjoy the solitude of not having to rush about. One of my favorite things about mornings is breakfast. I love breakfast food, and it is my favorite meal of the day. I often have more food groups in my breakfast meal than the rest of the day. I am one of those people that can eat the minute they get out of bed as I usually wake up hungry.
If you are a morning person, you will be nodding your head as you read. If you are someone that takes a long time to wake up and feels tired when you get up, I have no idea what that must feel like for you. My early morning gave me a couple more hours in the day than usual and I put them to good use. If for some reason you wake up early, make it memorable, try to see the positive in it, it will make for a better day.

ReplyDeleteI can sure identify with this post!
ReplyDeleteI like this post. I am both an early riser at times and a night owl all the time. I too like the leisure of mornings where I don't have to rush. I see the stream of traffic out my window and am so glad I don't have to go to work.
