Shockwave Therapy

I worked in health care for 43 years and never had an injury. Not a single one, but I guess my good luck has run out. Not sure what happened with my shoulder, I want to say it crept up on me. Over the course of the last couple of months it went from discomfort to disrupting my sleep. Yes, disrupting sleep that was already disrupted. I had a discussion with a friend about my shoulder. She said, "have you considered physio?". I assured her physio was not on my list of things to do when I have an injury. There are a variety of reasons for this decision, the main one is physio isn't a quick fix. Physios also give homework assignment in the form of exercises, which I am very consistent in not doing. Lastly, it is a process, often longer than I want. Physio is interactive, and I just want someone else to make it better. In other words, just fix it for me with the least amount of effort on my part.  Someone close to me shared her story of how shockwave therapy helped her get rel...

"This is Not Normal"

When we were leaving the gym one Friday, our coach said to us, "you know this is not normal. People your age are not doing what you just did". She is right, there aren't a lot of senior groups over 55 doing the type of workout that we do. What is normal about us is that every class we show up early, and we are always ready when the class starts. We do what we are asked to do, and we always work as hard as we can. We make sure everything is back as we found it, and we simply admire each other's ability. That is a definition of normal senior behavior.    A well-known businessman in the community just competed at the World's CrossFit Competition in Columbus, Ohio. He made the top 10 in the world and was invited to compete in the 2025 Age-Group CrossFit Games. He finished fourth in his division, that means he is the fourth fittest over 70-year-old male in the world. To put the work and time into such an aggressive work out is not normal for someone that is over 70.  I...

You will know when the time is right

In reflection, I have come to realize that most of my major decisions have been made with very little thought at the moment. Usually, I have developed a plan in my head, and when I get the sense that the time is right, I will implement the plan. I find when I put my plan and the right moment together, a decision is born.   Seventeen years ago, I bought my condo. I was living in an apartment at the time. One Sunday, I was sharing with a friend my plan about buying a permanent home. She knew of a new condo complex being build and suggested that we attend the open house that very day. So, away we went and checked out the show condo. That took 15 mins, and I told the realtor, I wanted one. I had no time to ponder; they were going like hotcakes. I am not one of those people that wanders all around town looking at places, when in fact, I had just seen what I wanted. I bought dirt as the building hadn't even begun. That was April 2008 with a projected completion date of November. On ...

Good Advice from Rip

I found the same "tip of the day" on Facebook, it was in front of a picture of "Rip" from Yellowstone. For those that watched Yellowstone, you know that Rip is everything a cowboy should be and more. I like him and I believe he probably lives his life by these words. Therefore, it has earned a post.  What this quote means to me is: our actions and thoughts should bring us peace, profit or purpose. If our actions and thoughts don't give us the 3-Ps, don't waste our  time nor our energy on them. I think this is a simple concept to live by.  Let's start with things that bring us peace. Up until now, I have put very little thought into what "peace of mind" truly means. Peace of mind is a state of emotional or mental calmness. When you have peace of mind you can think clearly and make good decisions, it gives you a sense of purpose. In order to achieve peace of mind you need to manage your thoughts and feelings. Some suggested activities are mediati...

Early morning in the airport

I recently took an early morning flight from Winnipeg to Vancouver, by early morning, take off time was 6:00. I believe that if you want to arrive at your destination on time, take the first flight of the day and fly direct.  When I travel, I try to eliminate as many unforeseen issues as possible, I do this by preparing as much as I can. I started by staying at a hotel right at the airport, which was a short walk to the terminal. I had printed my boarding pass as soon as it was available. For me, a paper copy of my boarding pass is less stressful than using my phone. I had weighed my luggage, I knew it was 43 lbs, well under the 50 lbs limit. When I arrived at the airport at 4:00, I had to make a stop at the counter to check my baggage, all went flawlessly, no long line up, just a simple stop to get my bag tag.  Next, I am off to security, I had also prepared for this moment. My jewelry is in my purse and no underwire bra. There wasn't an alarm when I walked through the securi...
